Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) rate increase proposed

Rate Increase:  REC has announced that on October 31, it expects to file with the State Corporation Commission an application seeking approval of a proposed increase in rates and charges for bills beginning January 1, 2023. Attached is the public notice. REC estimates that the average residential user will see an increase in their monthly bill of about $7.78 or approximately 4.1%. The company’s position is that the rate increase is “necessary to recover the cost of infrastructure investments that REC has made to its grid, and allow REC to continue to deliver reliable, sustainable service to its members.” The full letter can be read here. The Commission may convene a hearing to consider REC’s application, and if a hearing is held, the Commission may order rate relief, redesign rates or adopt tariff provisions which differ from those in REC’s application. You can contact REC about these proposed rates increases by calling 1-800-552-3904. The 500 kilovolt (kV) line is approximately 26.2-miles in length and current proposed design requires no new right of way to rebuild to current electrical safety and electrical requirements.
