The Architectural Review Board (ARB) administers the requirements of the Historic Preservation Overlay (HPO) District of the Hanover County Zoning Ordinance.
The ARB makes advisory recommendations on all applications for rezonings, conditional use permits, special exceptions and variances proposed within HPO Districts. The ARB hears and decides all applications for certificates of approval. The ARB may also add or revise HPO Districts.
The ARB consists of five
citizens, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, who have demonstrated
interest in the preservation of historical and architectural landmarks.
At least two members of the ARB must have professional training or
equivalent experience in architecture, history, architectural history,
archaeology or planning.
