Hanover County is fortunate to have many individuals and organizations dedicated to helping County residents with services and other support related to mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities. These individuals and organizations play a critical role in our community. As we do every year, the Hanover Community Services Board is honored to celebrate their contributions through the Jean C. Harris Award for Excellence.
This award is named for one of the founding Board members of the Hanover County Community Services Board. Jean C. Harris was a strong and tireless advocate for persons with disabilities at both the local and state levels. She noticed those in need and tried to help them in big and small ways, including by serving on the Hanover County CSB to promote the development of much-needed community-based services and supports.
Nominations for the Jean C. Harris Award for Excellence will be accepted for Hanover-based individuals, families, or organizations that demonstrate outstanding contributions to our community in the areas of developmental disabilities, mental health, or substance use. Nominations for those contributing to these areas in a compensated professional capacity should emphasize the extent to which their service in these areas goes above and beyond their professional obligations.
